TEDxPortland: Better late than never

Posted: August 28th, 2011 | Author: Jon Coon | Tags: , | No Comments »

On April 30th I had the privilege of attending the inaugural TEDxPortland (if you do not know what TED or TEDx is click here). I distinctly remember it was a gorgeous spring day and I was somewhat uneasy thinking that my next 7 hours would be spent sitting in a theater listening to people speak. However, I purchased my tickets to the event the day after that they came out (they sold out in a bout a week) and I was excited to enjoy my first TED event in person (instead of remotely through the hundreds of youtube videos).

The event was outstanding.

I came away with a plethora of new ideas, perspectives, appreciation and energy. I took several pages of notes but have simply highlighted a few below along with the accompanying videos. I strongly encourage you to watch all 16.

Greg Bell – Author & Thought Leader

Give away knowledge and give away love. It’s the only two things that will multiply.

Language determines how you think. How you think determines how you believe. How you believe will determine whats true.

Make your values your habit.

Roberta Conner – Tamástslikt Cultural Institute

It’s always someone’s home.

Think longitudinally.

John Jay – Wieden+Kennedy

Dream win. They always win.

The speed of change demands reinvention to stay relevant.

Genevieve Bell – Intel

Boredom became a word in 1852.

Spend time getting to a state of boredom.

What would it mean to wake up boredom?
